Our Safari Company
The power of different cultures

Welcome to Makasa Safaris. Selma, originally from the Netherlands, and Yohannes Ngomi, born and raised in Tanzania. The combination of our different cultures and backgrounds is quite unique. In any event, it adds to a very valuable experience for our travellers. Ngomi knows the country and he will introduce you to the finest that Tanzania has to offer. With her European background, Selma has a special knack for planning and organizing, but most of all, she is in tune with the needs and wishes of westerners. Together, we invite you to embark on a safari adventure like no other. Let us introduce you to the wonders of Tanzania, where each moment is a discovery and every encounter with nature leaves a lasting impression.

We organize the tour package of your choice

We live in Tanzania ourselves and we do not engage the services of any intermediaries. We conduct all of our tours ourselves, using our own vehicles and with the assistance of experienced guides. With a deep dedication to responsible tourism practices, Makasa Safaris leaves a positive footprint on the environment and wildlife. Moreover, we are firmly rooted in our mission to contribute to Tanzania's society and we honour this commitment by cooperating closely with the local population and by including local projects and small-scale lodges in our itinerary suggestions. This approach ensures that you will get the real experience of what life in Tanzania is like while at the same time, we have the shared opportunity to give back to the community.

Yohannes Ngomi Kamm

Born and raised amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Tanzania, Yohannes Ngomi Kamm developed an unwavering passion for nature and wildlife from a young age. Growing up in the heart of Tanzania's natural wonders, he was captivated by the diverse ecosystems and the magnificent creatures that call them home.

Ngomi's journey into the world of safari began at the age of 17 when he started guiding guests through the wilderness of Tanzania. His innate connection with the land and its inhabitants made him a natural guide, weaving tales of the savannah and sharing his profound knowledge of the wildlife.

Driven by his love for the natural world, he pursued a degree in Zoology at a university in Texas, USA. Armed with a deep understanding of animal behavior and ecosystems, he returned to Tanzania to conduct research across various fields, contributing to the conservation efforts in his homeland.

With a shared vision between him and his wife Selma, they founded Makasa Safaris in 2010 and later established Kimbilio Camps in 2022. These ventures are the culmination of their passion for creating exceptional safari experiences that seamlessly blend adventure, luxury, and conservation. Each endeavor reflects their tireless commitment to sustainable tourism, ensuring that the wonders they showcase today will be preserved for generations to come.

Ngomi's dedication to his craft goes beyond business. He has mentored and trained numerous Tanzanian guides, sharing his expertise and instilling in them a profound respect for the natural world. His guidance has shaped the next generation of safari leaders, enriching Tanzania's tourism industry.

Over the years, Ngomi has had the honor of guiding VIP guests and acclaimed photographers from every corner of the globe. His keen eye and intimate knowledge of Tanzania's hidden gems have led to unforgettable encounters with wildlife and the untamed beauty of the wilderness.

Outside of his professional pursuits, he finds immense joy in family. He is a loving husband and father of three, sharing his love for nature with his children. Often, you'll find him taking his kids to the bush, where he imparts wisdom about the land and its inhabitants, fostering a deep appreciation for Tanzania's natural heritage.

For Ngomi, the call of the wild is not just a profession – it's a way of life. His commitment to conservation, paired with his expertise in guiding, ensures that every journey with Makasa Safaris is a transformative experience, where nature's wonders are unveiled in all their glory.

Selma Kamm

Originally from the Netherlands, Selma Kamm's journey to Tanzania was set in motion by a desire to expand her horizons. In 2008, during her studies as a nurse, she ventured to Moshi, Tanzania for an internship. Little did she know that this trip would change the course of her life forever.

It was in Tanzania that Selma met Yohannes Ngomi Kamm. A year later Selma made the bold decision to move to Tanzania to embark on a new adventure with Ngomi, as they started their family and founded Makasa Safaris together. The young couple worked tirelessly, crafting the company from the ground up, from designing the website to actualizing their dream of providing exceptional safari experiences.

With her remarkable organizational skills and creative mind, Selma quickly became an integral part of the company's growth. Together with Ngomi, they nurtured Makasa Safaris from its inception in 2010 to the thriving safari company it is today. Selma's innate ability to connect with clients and understand their needs has made her the vital bridge between their home and their dream holiday in Tanzania.

Selma ensures that every aspect of a guest's safari experience is meticulously planned and executed to perfection. From crafting personalized itineraries to overseeing the smallest details, she ensures that each guest feels welcomed and cared for throughout their journey.

Beyond her role in Makasa Safaris, Selma finds joy in the moments spent raising their three children amidst Tanzania's natural wonders. Watching them grow up in the heart of nature, exploring and traveling together as a family, are their most cherished moments.

For Selma, each safari is not just a holiday; it's an opportunity to create lasting memories and forge connections with the majestic wilderness of Tanzania. Her passion, combined with her dedication, ensures that every guest embarks on a journey of a lifetime with Makasa Safaris.

Kimbilio Serengeti Camp Accommodation Double tent

Our Serengeti Camp

In their quest to provide a unique and intimate safari experience, Ngomi and Selma were struck by the mass tourism prevalent in certain parts of the Serengeti. Determined to offer their guests something truly special, they embarked on a journey to create their own sanctuary amidst the wilderness. They set their sights on an off-the-beaten-path location in Serengeti, a place that captured their hearts - Lobo. This serene and secluded area held a special allure for them, and it was here that they realized their dream by establishing their own tented camp: "Kimbilio," meaning "safe haven" in Swahili. Kimbilio is more than just a camp; it's a sanctuary, a place to come "home" to after a day of exhilarating safaris in the bush.
