From Selma, founder of Makasa Safaris
I moved to Tanzania at 23 with a nursing degree and a feeling I could not explain. I built Makasa Safaris from nothing, opened two camps in the northern Serengeti, and raised three children in the bush. And over the years I kept watching something happen to women when they arrived here. Capable, driven, successful women who had been running so hard for so long that they had completely lost the thread to themselves. Tanzania did something to them. The scale of it. The silence. The complete absence of their usual context. I created this retreat because I wanted to build a container worthy of that. Somewhere a woman could bring her ambition, her questions, her tired edges, and her sense of adventure, and leave nine days later with clarity, a plan, and a group of women she will be in contact with for years.
That is the retreat. I hope you will come.
