WOMEN IN BUSINESS RETREAT
Nine days in Tanzania with women who get it.

13 – 21 November 2026 | Tanzania

A safari retreat for ambitious women who want to work on their business,

have an adventure they will never stop talking about,

and find their people while they are at it.

Not a spa weekend. Not a conference with palm trees. Something better.

From Selma, founder of Makasa Safaris

I moved to Tanzania at 23 with a nursing degree and a feeling I could not explain. I built Makasa Safaris from nothing, opened two camps in the northern Serengeti, and raised three children in the bush. And over the years I kept watching something happen to women when they arrived here. Capable, driven, successful women who had been running so hard for so long that they had completely lost the thread to themselves. Tanzania did something to them. The scale of it. The silence. The complete absence of their usual context. I created this retreat because I wanted to build a container worthy of that. Somewhere a woman could bring her ambition, her questions, her tired edges, and her sense of adventure, and leave nine days later with clarity, a plan, and a group of women she will be in contact with for years.

That is the retreat. I hope you will come.

You are building something real. And you know there is a next level you have not had time to think about properly.

The business is running. The team is there. The revenue is coming in. You are the one answering messages at 11pm, holding every thread, making every call. By every

visible measure, you are winning.

And somewhere in the back of your mind there is a bigger vision that keeps getting pushed to next quarter. The direction question you have been meaning to sit with. The decision you keep almost making.

You have been waiting for the right moment to think clearly. The right moment does not come. It has to be created.

This is nine days of created space. In the Serengeti. With women doing the same thing.

Business with soul. Safari with purpose. Friendship that lasts.

This is not a meditation retreat with some game drives on the side. It is a bold, well-designed experience that combines serious inner work with extraordinary adventure, and wraps it in the kind of female energy that makes both things better.

You will work on your business. You will ride horses through a zebra herd. You will have the most honest conversation of your professional year around a campfire under the Serengeti stars. You will float over the plains in a hot air balloon at sunrise with eleven other women and come down different.

And then you will go home with a clarity you could not have found sitting at your desk.

Makasa Safaris has hosted over 15,000 travellers since 2010, with a 5.0 rating across 390 TripAdvisor reviews. The Women in Business Retreat is built on that same standard of personal attention.

"There are no words. Just such a deeply rooted, fantastic feeling. You should be incredibly proud of what you and your team have created."

— Brigith
"The energy here is so intoxicating. You and all your team have blessed me with a life-changing event I will always remember."
— Kat

Nine days that combine extraordinary adventure with serious inner work.

This is not a conference with a safari tacked on. Every part of the experience is designed to work together. The Maasai wisdom session hits differently after a morning game drive. The business strategy workshop lands deeper when you are not checking your phone. The balloon puts everything in perspective. Literally.

The Adventure

Hot air balloon at sunrise. Horse riding among zebra herds. Multiple Serengeti game drives. Champagne breakfast in the bush. Close encounters with lions, elephants, leopard.

The Work

Business strategy sessions. EFT coaching with Jenny McKinney. Leadership workshops with Kim Groeneweg. Daily reflection circles. Vision setting and real-world integration.

The Culture

Maasai Elder's Circle. Beading your Leadership Necklace with Maasai women. Storytelling by the fire. Ancient wisdom about leading people that no boardroom has ever taught.

The Women

International women, curated, international, ambitious, funny, real. The conversations that start on a game drive at 6am tend to continue for years. This is the network that shows up.

The moment everyone talks about for years

Day 8. Your alarm goes off at 4:30am. You will not mind.

You dress in layers in the dark and walk out to a field where a balloon is being inflated in slow motion. You climb into the basket with eleven other women and a pilot who has done this 400 times. Then you rise. Silently. Over the Serengeti. As the sun comes up. Below you, the migration. Around you, complete silence and the sound of eleven women quietly losing their minds with joy. The flight lasts an hour. A champagne breakfast in the bush follows, white tablecloths, middle of nowhere, elephant herd in the distance. Most women cry. Some laugh. All of them agree it is the clearest their head has been in years. You will describe this morning to people for the rest of your life.

The balloon is placed on Day 8 deliberately. By then you have done seven days of real inner work. The altitude gives you a view of everything you have been untangling from the ground. The rivers know where they are going. The plains have a rhythm. Everything connects. It is not a metaphor. It is just what happens.

From Arusha to the Serengeti. Every detail handled, nothing to think about.

Arusha
2 Nights

You land, exhale, and meet the women you will spend the next nine days with. Beautiful private villa with views of Kilimanjaro. First sessions to set intentions. A soft, warm landing into something that is about to be extraordinary.

Amini Maasai Lodge
2 Nights

Built by the Maasai. Wide plains, stars you cannot believe, campfires, the Elder's Circle, morning walks. The place where the deep work happens and the group stops being a group of strangers. Nowhere else on earth feels like this.

Four Seasons Serengeti

Four Seasons Serengeti
4 Nights

Four nights at one of the world's great safari lodges. Infinity pool with elephant herds in the valley. Spa. Gourmet food. The balloon is here. The closing ceremony is here. The last dinner under the stars is here. You earned this, and it will feel like it.

For women who are already winning, and ready for what comes next.

You run a business or lead a team. You love to travel. You work hard and you know how to have fun. You want real connection, not a business card exchange. You want to come home with direction, not just a tan. Past participants have flown in from the Netherlands, Germany, Tanzania, Canada and the US. From tech to fashion to professional services to hospitality. What they share is not an industry. It is ambition, curiosity, and a willingness to do real inner work in an extraordinary place with other women who get it.

This is not a holiday. There is real coaching here, real workshops, real campfire conversations that will challenge you. If you want a week of pure poolside rest with nothing asked of you, wrong retreat. If you want to come home with new direction, a clear head, and a group of women who saw the real you, this is it.

Guided By Experts in Leadership, Mindset & Tanzania

Selma Kamm

Retreat Host · Founder, Makasa Safaris

Selma moved to Tanzania at 23 with a nursing degree and a feeling she could not explain. She built Makasa Safaris from nothing, opened two tented camps in the northern Serengeti, raised three children in the bush, and created this retreat because she kept watching what happened to capable women when they were finally given space.

She has been living and leading safari holidays in Tanzania for 17 years. She knows this land. And she is very good at noticing what it does to people.

Jenny McKinney

Leadership Mentor · Certified EFT Coach

Jenny spent 27 years as an award-winning makeup artist in Canada, working with women in the most significant moments of their lives. That work taught her to see people, really see them.

Now, as a certified EFT coach and mindset facilitator, she helps ambitious women move through the internal blocks that strategy cannot touch. She came to this retreat in 2024 as a participant facilitating a few sessions. She came back in 2025 to lead. That is what this retreat does.

Kim Groeneweg

Leadership Trainer · Founder, Jobortunity Tanzania

Kim is Dutch. She moved to Tanzania and built Jobortunity, a professional training institute in Arusha, from the ground up. With a Master’s in Education and Behavioural Change and 20 years of developing leaders across Africa and internationally, she brings a precision to personal and professional development that is grounded in real behavioural change, not theory.

She has led the leadership sessions at this retreat for the last two editions.

FAQ

Is this retreat only for women with their own business?

No. The defining quality is not a job title. It is a commitment to growth and a willingness to do real inner work in an extraordinary setting. Past participants have included founders, senior leaders in larger organisations, and women at a turning point in their careers. If this page is speaking to you, that is your answer.

Is airfare included in the package?

No. Flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) are not included, because participants join from all over the world and routes vary widely. Everything from the moment you land is arranged. We are happy to advise on flight options if you would like guidance.

I am a bit hesitant to come solo, will I fit in the group?

Most women arrive alone. By the second evening, that is not how it feels. The group is small and deliberately curated. You come alone. You do not leave that way.

I want to come with a friend, can we share a room?

Yes. Note your friend's name in the comments when you book and we will assign you to the same room. If you have any other requests around accommodation, reach out directly.

Can you accommodate my dietary restrictions?

Yes. We work closely with all three properties to ensure every dietary requirement is met properly, not as an afterthought. Let us know when you book and we will confirm with each location in advance.

What is the cancellation policy?

Makasa Safaris has been organising travel in Tanzania since 2010. We are a licensed, professional travel operator, and every retreat booking is handled with the same care and rigour we bring to all our journeys. If your plans change, we will work with you. The formal terms covering timelines, refunds, and transfer options are in our booking policy, and we recommend reading them before you reserve your spot. Selma handles every situation personally. The full cancellation policy is here.

What will I get out of attending this retreat?

That depends on what you bring to it. What past participants consistently describe: clarity on a decision they had been avoiding, connections with women who understand what it means to build something, and a shift in how they lead, from pressure and momentum to intention and inner strength.

It is not a holiday. It is not a conference. It is nine days designed to create the conditions for genuine insight. The Serengeti is not decoration. It does something specific to the nervous system. The coaching is not motivational. It moves things that have been stuck.

Liselotte came back with five words: be soft and play more. That is not what she expected. It is what she needed.

How is this different from other events/retreats I've attended?

Three things that are genuinely rare in combination.

First, the setting is functional, not decorative. The Serengeti at this scale creates a specific kind of mental space that a hotel conference room cannot replicate. The silence, the distance from routine, the proximity to something vast, these are not background. They are the work.

Second, the Maasai dimension. The Elder's Circle at Amini Lodge draws on wisdom from a community that has led people across generations with no frameworks and no laptops. Only presence and accountability. There is no Western leadership programme that offers this.

Third, Selma is not a facilitator who flies in. She lives in Tanzania. She built this. She knows every moment of the journey from the inside.

Who else will be there?

The group is small, curated, and international. Past participants have come from Europe, North America, and East Africa, across a range of industries and business stages. What they share is not a job title. It is a seriousness about growth and a willingness to do genuine inner work.

Selma reviews every application personally. The group matters as much as the programme.

How will this fit into my already busy schedule?

It will not fit easily. That is the point. You are not looking for something that slots neatly into the life you already have. You are looking for nine days that change how you approach it.

The women who benefit most are the ones who decide in advance to let the retreat be the priority for that week and trust that what they come back with will be worth it. They are consistently right.

What's the financial commitment?

The full investment is $6,990. Early bird pricing at $6,490 is available for a limited number of spots.

A payment plan is available in three instalments. If this is the right decision and the payment structure is the only question, reach out. We will find a way to make it work.

Who is this not for?

This is not a holiday. There is inner work here, real sessions with real facilitators that ask something of you. If you are looking for a week of pure rest with no reflection or personal challenge, this is the wrong retreat. If you are ready to be in a room with women who will hold you to your own highest standard, it is exactly right.

If something in you is already saying yes, you can reserve your spot directly below.

You have been waiting for exactly this. A bold adventure that also moves your business forward. Women you actually want to be in the room with. Nine days that feel completely different from any week you have ever spent.

If something in you is already saying yes, trust that. The women who get the most out of this retreat are the ones who decide before they have figured everything out.

Book a call with Selma or reserve your spot directly.

Either way, Tanzania is waiting.
