A private safari in Tanzania

A private safari means you travel with your own party and nobody else, on dates you choose, along a route made for you. You have your own vehicle and your own guide, and nobody joins along the way. It is how we run every trip we do.

What private means

  1. Your own dates. You leave when it suits you, not on a fixed departure date.
  2. Your own route. We start from what you want to see, not from a set programme.
  3. Your own vehicle. A Land Cruiser that takes up to seven guests, and those guests are you.
  4. Your own guide. The same guide from start to finish, who after a few days knows what you want to see.

Private safari or group safari

On a group safari you book a seat. The dates, the route and the other people in the vehicle are fixed before you arrive. On a private safari you book the whole vehicle and the guide, and everything else follows from you.

Price

Vehicle and guide paid per trip, so it depends on how many of you there are

The vehicle cost is spread across every seat

In reality the difference shows at the sightings. A cheetah sits and watches, nothing happens for an hour, and then everything happens in ten seconds. In a shared vehicle someone always wants to move on. In yours, you wait.

We only run private trips, so we are not neutral here. But that is the reason we chose it.

Private is not the same as self-drive

You do not drive. On safari there is always a guide at the wheel. He knows where the animals are, what the tracks are like after rain and what the rules are in each park. You watch.

How a private safari comes together

1. You tell us what you want. When, how many of you, what you want to see, and roughly what you want to spend.

2. We make a proposal. One clear recommendation and the reasons for it. Not ten options side by side.

3. You see the programme day by day. With the camps and an indicative price.

4. We adjust it until it is right.

5. You book, and we arrange the rest.

The full step-by-step is on how to book a safari.

You do not have to start from scratch

If you are not sure yet what you want, start from one of our itineraries. They are a starting point. An extra park, one more night in the Serengeti or an earlier finish by the sea, all of it can change.

What it costs

Because the vehicle and the guide are paid per trip and not per person, it matters how many of you there are. How that works is explained on Tanzania safari cost.

Start from an example

Our itineraries are private trips you can change. Pick one that comes close and we will make it yours.
